TOP NEWS: DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH GRANT/ WONDERLIKE NUUS: BEFONDSING DEUR DIE PROVINSIALE GESONDHEIDSDEPARTEMENT.

We are thrilled that the Provincial Department of Health has made us a grant in slight excess of R 440 000 per annum escalating by 10% yearly for the next three years. This will require us to employ 6 caregivers for that period full day instead of half day at about double their half day salaries. This will mean that we can make the areas smaller in which the Caregivers have to visit their patients. Recently they have had to spend more time walking to see patients than they have actually visiting patients. Smaller areas and longer work hours will mean less walking and more time for patients. We have talked about perhaps providing bicycles, but such is the level of crime that they would very likely be mugged for the bicycles

Although the R440 000 sounds a lot of money it Hospice’s monthly pared-down expenditure is currently about R85 000 per month. So, apart from local fundraising, we need to find another major funder. Local fundraising helps us to pay for aspects of our work not covered by the stipulations of major funders and also to squirrel away money to tide us over any periods when we don’t have outside funders as is the case at present until the first tranche of Health Department funding is deposited to our account.

‘n BRIEF WAT ALMAL BY HOSPICE AANMOEDIG OM DEUR DIK EN DUN MET ONS WERK AAN TE GAAN/A WONDERFULLY ENCOURAGING LETTER.

Dankie julle. Mag die Here julle ryklik seen. ( Brief verkort.) [Thank you to the nursing staff for the care they gave my husband during his short illness. You made a great difference in his remaining life. I value it greatly. When he heard that the sisters had arrived his face used to brighten at the thought of the care and help he would receive. May God bless you richly. He has given you a talent to help people and their families in a time of need. It gives people strength to know that there are those who care and show love. Thank you to all who prepare food parcels at the office. May you too be blessed and may He ensure that you will get sufficient donations to keep helping the underprivileged.]

ONLANGSE FONDSINSAMELING SUKSES/RECENT FUND RAISING SUCCESS.

Recently Grey High School, Port Elizabeth asked a Hospice Board member if they could come to stage a concert of their string orchestra in Graaff-Reinet. The proceeds would be for Hospice. The Concert was held in the Groot Kerk and raised over R14 200. The orchestra received very loud, sustained applause for the high quality of the music of the young musicians.
